B.WITCHING TREND REPORT

grow a Retail Hemp-ire & CBD

The world of hemp is changing fast! Earlier this year, Martha Stewart Blissed Out on CBD, and is doing just fine as reported by the New York Times. And Barneys New York announced that it would become the first major retailer to open a luxury cannabis lifestyle and wellness concept shop. Dubbed “The High End,” the store offers a variety of cannabis accessories and CBD wellness products. According to Forbes Magazine, CBD will continue to be huge for the beauty and wellness industry. Thousands of CBD products hit the market in 2019 and the demand for this product has grown into a “Hempire”.  Socialites like Katy Perry, Olivia Wilde, and Mandy Moore have raved about the endless uses of CBD and hemp. Companies have created cannabis-infused chocolates, new clothing brands are on the rise with luxuriously soft hemp fabrics and sophisticated clothing styles, and hospitality businesses are gaining the ‘hemp edge’ by ingraining the material into their experiences too. The co-founder of MoonCloth notes “It’s very versatile; there’s a lot more opportunities for consumer products. Our hemp brand is on a mission to not only elevate hemp as a source for luxury consumers good, but also to trigger a wider consumer shift towards sustainability.” It’s not just about beauty, clothes and furniture.  It’s about the environment.

No longer confused for THC, CBD is huge and the most asked about ingredient in lifestyle and wellness! CBD comes from the cannabis plant. People refer to cannabis plants as either hemp or marijuana, depending on their level of THC. Hemp plants that are legal under the Farm Bill must contain less than 0.3% THC. It’s these hemp plants that are used to create CBD oil. Unlike THC, CBD oil is not psychoactive. This means that CBD does not change a person's state of mind when they use it, hence its addition into mainstream foods and beauty products. However, aside from emollient abilities, CBD does appear to produce significant changes in the body, and research suggests that it has medical benefits.  All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors. The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It also has two receptors for cannabinoids, called the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They affect inflammation and pain. Researchers once believed that CBDattached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that CBD does not attach directly to either receptor. Instead, it seems to direct the body to use more of its own cannabinoids. Research suggests CBD oil has a positive impact in natural pain relief, anti-inflammatory properties, anxiety disorders, and can treat acne. The research is emerging to support the use of CBD for numerous conditions, as well as looking closely at safety, side effects, and long-term effects.  Please note: The FDA supports sound scientific research and has not approved a marketing application for cannabis products claiming the treatment of any disease or condition.
